This conceptual design project reminds us of a quote by architect Makoto Takei — "Simplicity is the result of a concentration of ideas, and not about removing ideas".
The design decisions made towards the final outcome are merely a series of simple and straightforward responses from site, needs, and surroundings. The almost entirely covered front facade serves as a buffer from the afternoon heat and provides privacy to the family. Large openings are placed where lush greenery and exemplary views of the city and the sea are highlighted. A small central garden makes sure there's enough light and cross ventilation for all spaces. The gap between the house on stilts and the cascading landscape is used as a semi-outdoor gathering space for the family and guests. Storage spaces blend within the open plan to help keep the house clean and free from clutter. With very few types of finishes, the beautiful surroundings are put to focus.
While these decisions are rational, we'd like the believe that the experience of the resulting spaces can be moving and emotional — spaces that allow us to connect with nature, to enjoy the company of each other, to find solace and peace after a long day's work, to grow as a family...
