On a 160m² site, we envisioned a simple, functional and peaceful home for a family of 3.
Varying ceiling heights and thoughtful placement of skylight and openings have users experience the best of both inside and outside at the same time. This is highlighted especially by an interior stone garden that cuts through the middle of the house and serves as a transition space for all other spaces.
This project reminds us of a saying by Sou Fujimoto — "If you rigidly divide inside and outside, you completely miss out on the richness of all gradations in between". A flexible open plan in the ground floor responds to different scenarios, leaving the architecture almost as a blank page for our client to fill , unfold, and evolve as their lives do. To keep the balance of privacy and openness, and a passage for diffused sunlight and wind, the facade is wrapped in perforated metal.
We're looking forward to having this built someday, and we're excited to see how our client's lives will grow with these spaces.
